I own a 1996 F-350 PSD dually with 135,000 miles on it. Engine is stock and runs great, except for a frequent idling problem. When the engine is at operating temperature, I experience frequently recurring rough idle for about 5-8 seconds before it levels off to a smooth idle. I almost sense it could be a malfunctioning injector pump. It sort of reminds me of an gas V8 running on six or seven cylinders for a little bit...
1. Is the fuel regulator screen clean? The screen can be reached from the inside of the fuel bowl. Take off the cover to the fuel bowl and there should be a hole on the top right. Take a Q-tip and gently reach in and clean the screen.
2. Test the fuel pressure. There's a valve on the FPR.
