Removing Door Panels

Just bought some new speakers for a 97 Expedition and am trying to figure out how to get the door panels off.

Any help would be appreciated. The stereo store wants 80 bucks to replace the front and back door speakers and I want to do it myself if it is relatively easy.

I cant get the search function to work so if anybody has done it before please respond.

Thanks

hey, good luck with the speakers.. and with the panels.. after you pop off the peice around the handle make sure you remove the screw in the middle of the handle area or else you will not go anywhere. take that screw out and the panel should lift off, make sure you pull up and off because the clips sit down. hope this helps this is how it was on my 97expy.

First pull off triangle trim at top of door. Ther is a screw there. Then pull window switches and trim straight up and out. There is a screw there. Then remove trim around door handle, there is a screw there also. Then remove door light lens, there is a screw there. All you need to do after that is to lift straight up and then out. It will come right off. Make sure you unplug all electrical connectors. Pretty easy to replace speakers.

Thank you for the tips 4by4 freak.

I was seeking tips for my 1996 bronco and know the 5-150 truck of 1996 lists a similar removal for the door panels. The photo even showed the t shaped slide down and in mounts on the back of the panel.

So now I am going to attempt the removal with what info you gave and will photo the process for other users to know how it's done.

Thanks again,
Jimbo

Rear doors are essentially the same but for two screws located at the bottom of the door panel.

Talking Some additional dirty details about door panel removal

Regarding the inside mirror cover/triangle piece, actually you pull OUT at the TOP to free the horizontal gripper located near the top and then only once the plug/gripper is free and clear, you lift straight up to free the two vertical clips. a little tricky.

Also, good luck with some of the electrical plugs, some can be really stubborn.

Lastly, IN TOTAL, there are 5 screws and bolts to be removed before you lift up the panel from the door. One at the mirror after pulling the cover, two bolts at the door handle, one screw just above the door handle and a screw inside the door light - which by the way, just remove the lens, unscrew and turn the bulb to enable you to push the bulb inside the door frame. So leave the white housing in place, which is probably obvious to most but was not to me (and no, I don’t pull it out <ONLY do so to trying some after>, did I see you can twist the bulb inside the frame).<O
