Working on my 95 F350 460ci. I have the Dana 60 "monobeam" and need to change the axle U-joint. I cant get the damn spindle off. I have tried penetrants, air hammer, and light heat. any suggestions on hoe to get this damn thing off.
There are several threads on how to do this job. Try a search and check out the way others managed to get those spindles off.
Basically they are a bear to remove. You don't want to heat them very much and you have to take care not to damage the threads on the end of the spindle. A hardwood 2x4, a moderately large hammer and a lot of effort seems to work. Rap on the spindle from different directions and see if you can get it to break free.
There is a tool meant to do the job you're trying to do. There is a spindle puller end that threads onto the nut threads on the spindle and then you can thread a slide hammer into that puller end. A few good slides of the weight and she'll pop right off. I bought a whole slide hammer set and that end from advance auto here a few years back and it all came to about 100-120, you may find it cheaper though... Definately worth it if you plan on doing this job a time or two. Good luck either way.
