Tranny Questions

My buddy and I picked up a truck real cheap this past weekend. It is a 1990 f150 auto tranny 4x4. The only thing is the tranny is bad. My plan was to replace it with the c6 that I have at my house just sitting around. The guy said that was the tranny that was in it but I am starting to have some doubts. I have the c6 im pretty sure on my 88 that I took out when I went to manual. It was a 4 speed with no overdrive. Thats what the guy said was in the 90 we picked up, but when I looked at the column there was an overdrive, Drive, and 1. On my 88, there is a Drive, 1 and 2. So now im thinking he might have had the e4od in that 90. If this is the case, will the computer from the efi 302 work with the c6 that I want to put in or do I have to get another e4od? Or maybe a diff computer depending on what is cheaper. What route should I take? Or maybe the 90 did have a c6 and the column shifter label was different. Thanks for any info.

See what you got first. Also look on the VIN tag on the driver's door post for the tranny code.

you bought an AOD equipped truck. The c6 swap should be straight forward, niether are computer controlled. As far as over all lenghth and spline diffrences? I dunno, and I think they may use a diffrent TV hookup. I dont know if a c6 from an E.F.I. would have a similar cable hookup.
