Hey everyone, I tried searching to see if this was discussed before, but to no avail, so I ask you... I read somewhere once that you can have your original exhaust manifolds blasted, sort of like porting the heads, so that the interior runners are much smoother and less turbulant to the exhaust gas. I think it is done by blowing some type of abrasive through the manifolds. Supposedly the flow is much improved from stock, although somewhat less than headers. However, this would pose none of the usual fitment problems that headers do. Have any of you heard of this, and do you think it is a good idea??
That process is called "extrude hone" and it's quite expensive (exhaust manifolds = $625 according to their website). I wanted to extrude hone an intake manifold until I saw the price. $625 would buy you a great set of headers.
Wow, thanks for the input guys, I guess I can scratch that idea... I think I'm gonna wait until I have the money to buy the best headers I can find, and get them ceramic coated. Do it right the first time, right?
