86-89 Conversion??????

I recently purchased a 1986 broncoII that had a rear end noise,it has a 5 speed tranny(mitsubishi),v6,4wd with manual hubs.My problem lies in the rear end,i need a new one.I am looking to purchase a 1989 with a 5speed same tranny but different drive shaft(the 86 has the rapezza, the 89 has u-joints),will the 89 rearend and driveshaft fit my 86.Also i was thinking on switching the dashboard and shifters from the 89 over to the 86, are tthey all compatible or am i looking at a bigger problem/mess than what i already have.thanks in advance

dont replace broken with breaking

if you want to replace the back axel, get the axel from a 95' explorer, it bolts right in and extends the wheel tract, make sure the tranny from the other b2 is good also. i think the parts will bolt right in your back end, but keep in mind that a 85-88 ranger or bronco ii part wil fit your bronco ii.

Explorer axles don't quite "bolt up:" You need to relocate the spring perches from spring under to spring over.
The '89 axle should go into the '86. Only concern would be, if your '86 is a 4WD, that the '89 rear gear ratio matches the '86 front gear ratio.
From there, I will have to assume that you've actually isolated the problem to the rear end, and the driveshaft isn't the real problem.
