instead of waiting for leveling coils to get to my house via UPS, I would like to get them localy, and my question is this, what if I got a front coil for a same year, f-250 4x4. My truck is a 1995 reg cab short bed, 4x4. can anyone recommend the right spring for me? and also, what weighs more, the 4.9, or 5.8, does anyone know the exact weight of these engines.
I had a spring problem with my Ford. Its a I6 with 2wd. When I bought it the alignment of the front tires was really bad, looked like the springs sagged right out. I bought it from a dude that travelled on gravel roads alot and it was really neglected in terms of suspension upkeeping. But the springs didnt do that much for it. I did however buy a set of heavy duty springs, probably ment for a 4x4 with the added weight, but the tires are still slanted, I think its time for a wheel alignment were they provide the upper ball joint aligment. Camber is really out alot.
I believe the 4.9 and 5.8 are similiar in weight. I believe the 300 weighs about 500lbs and the 5.8 more by 50-100lbs.
Another alternative to the leveling springs is 2" spacers. I put these on my F-150 4x4 and it leveled the truck perfectly, and doubled my front end suspension travel.
The camber on my truck is off pretty bad. My father took it in to get an alignment at a local gas station garage. $1500 later i had new bushings and radius arm brackets, ball joints, the whole deal. They forgot to do the alignment. I was pretty steamed to pay 1500 for about 300 worth of parts, and roughly 37 cents worth of rubber bushings.
Squiggy- is it possible to get different upper ball joints so that the camber can be adjusted more? I figured TTB drop brackets would be the only option, and that would suck.
On the fords the upper ball joint has a hole it goes through. If youve ever been in a shop with alignment tools they have an assortment of these things that sldie into place. Think of a circle, then think of another circle in it, the thing is that these circles are in different places to obtain the proper camber.either closer to one side or the other. that makes the upper part of the tire come out or in.
So its more than likely simply out of range of the whole deal. Looks like drop brackets for me. First i'm going to take it to another shop and see if the first one was just beeing lazy.
you can get adjustable (ecentric) camber bushings, but it is best just to go with drop brackets that jc whitney sells for 1.5 to 2 inchs of lift. that is what i am goin to run with leveling coil spacers.
