Dieseling...
My '93 Flareside is a 5.oL Speed Density with an E40D and 3.55 rear gears. I have just replaced the O2 with a new Bosch and the whole ignition system (except for the distributor itself) is brand new High perf stuff. I ran some Lucas FI cleaner through the system and Hey! all of a sudden my front gas gauge works again. Cool! But I still can't seem to get rid of that "dieseling" my truck does when accelerating, you can hear it in the cab. It only seems to do it between 25-50mph and accelerates like I'm pushing water and then it spits and sputters when I let off the gas, like it was trying to burn extra fuel, or it has an exhaust backflow. No leaks found. I've been told it can only be fixed with a chip. It also has the famous Ford "transmission shudder" which is driving me nuts. 
Any input? BTW... no codes, I checked.

No EGR at idle, only when revved. Check the base timing - it might be advanced too much. Should be 10 degrees before top dead center. I think if anything, the pinging would be caused by too little fuel rather than too much. Also check the MAP sensor and TPS sensor to make sure they are sending the correct output to the computer - they could be incorrect, but still in range, and thus not set a code.
