i was wondering how the timing lines up on the 351 cleavland. i dont know if the dot on the top gear is at the top or if it is suppose to line up at the bottum of the gear? anyone that knows please inform. thank you, shawn
A service manual will be very helpful in working on your truck. Check out the selection in the online store and at your local parts store. They have nice pictures of stuff like this.
The truck manual would not cover a Cleveland because Clevelands were not used in trucks except for the Torino derivative Ranchero. They are similar to the 351M and 400 tho. You can find more information in the Cleveland engine forum.
No, they line up as I said above, The crank gear ( the small one on the bottom) the dot is on top, The cam gear (large gear on top) the dot is on the bottom. And yes they are correct you have a 351M motor not the C engine
ok well i lined the timing up like the manual and everyone here has advised me too, and it seems that the timing is still off, i put everything back together and started my truck, let it run for a second and when i go to let it idle at 1500 or 2000 rpms it seems to be getting excessive gas, now the manual says that thwe timing could still be off among other things, but the timing is the only reason i can think of for the excessive gas, she still runs sluggish aswell, i dont not have a timing light so what is another way to set the timing correctly without one? thank you shawn
