chips

Everyone seems to like the chips in this forum, but everone seems to have "unrelated" problems that have a chip. I would get one, but am afraid to have problems. any opinions? any thoughts? how long have chips been available and has anyone had one for a while and not had any problems? just curious and trying to do a little research before making the decision. thanks

Haven't had any problems with the Supertuner. The Diablo didn't have a model for my truck or I may have picked it up, the switch on the fly has a certain appeal. However, the easy of use with the microtuner (no installation like the chip) is nice too. Not disappointed with the tuner at all. Love the extra horses and fuel mileage.

I have had my chip for 28,000 miles,(put it in with 1,000 miles on the truck) and i actually went from a 80HP chip to a 78HP to a 110HP. The extra power is awesome and as long as you keep your foot off the throttle you get better fuel economy. I would still say with any chip get gauges. Boost and Pyro are suffcient. I have really had no problems just the occasional oil leak from intercooler tubes, and a high pressure oil line which is fairly common on stock PSD'S.

The boost gauge measures the PSI (pound per square inch of pressure) that the turbo is putting out. Stock trucks get around 18PSI, I get about 25-27PSI with a boost tube. With the wastegate unplugged I can get 30PSI easily. By having a boost gauge you can tell when the air filter is dirty or better yet, i was able to tell that i had an oil leak, because if your low on oil pressure you dont get full boost. You also will want to keep your PSI under 25 to save your turbo.

Pyrometer= EGT'S=Exhaust Gas Tempatures
This is measured most of the time Pre-Turbo on the drivers side at the lowest point of the exhaust manifold. Like its name it measures the temp of the gases. You need to keep your temps under 1200F if you put it pre turbo. The reason for this is that if you go over 1200F you can damage your turbo, valves and othe vital parts in your engine.

The boost gauge shows psi(pounds per square inch)the turbo is pressurizing the intake and the pyro(exhaust gas temparture) measures the exhaust temps coming from the engine.These guages help to inform you of the idle down time needed for cooling the turbo and for not running the engine into too high of an egt and melting some pistons.
