Stupid dust shield!!!

Stupid dust shield!!!
So I'm in the Ex driving to the mall yesterday. We decide to take a back road to cut out some traffic. About halfway down the road the truck starts making this gawd awfull noise kind of a metal on metal grinding. 
So naturally I freak out. I pull the truck over and crawl under it and cant find anything loose or stuck , so we press on. Niose still there when we move. 
Pop it in to neutral and still there. SO we pull up to the mall and I have my wife jump in the drivers seat. I stand outside and have her pull forward. As soon as she rolls it I hear the noise coming from the passenger side front tire. I crawl under it and upon closer inspection I find the dust shield is now in contact with the rotor. 
A little tug and all is well. My question is this; Is this a common problem? I dont think I hit any major bumps or potholes. Thanks for any input all!! This is still the best truck I have ever owned!!
