Question on some years...

Hey fellas, I have decided too look for a late 90s ranger with the 3.0L v6 and 5spd. SWB.
What year did ford go too the OBDII comp. on the rangers?
I know most cars and trucks had it by 96, but I would like too know what is the first year they were fitted with this comp.
The reason is that I would like too find a ranger in this year or newer because I know that the OBDI was a very generic system and would like the ease of reading codes and fixing any problems.

My 95 has OBD2 system,plus this is the first year to get the new dash,much better then the 94 I think.

maintance records are a plus for sure,oil changes and such,also avoid rust on the undercarraige.If possible do a compression test to see if its up to spec,also within 10 psi of each other.you want a truck that starts Instantly and idles smoothly with no misses.avoid one that shifts poorly or has excessive vibrations.Oil leaks are no good either.I have a 95 XLT reg.cab 2.3L with 181,000 and uses NO oil between changes,so you should be able to find one that has'nt been abused.If you can find out about the previous owner,contact if possible.I would avoid one owned or driven by a youngster because they tend to be rough on them,not avoiding potholes and stomping the gas. Hope you find a good one.

I am probly one of those guys some considure as youngster.
I have a 82 bronco that I beat on pretty hard, so hard that i'm doing an engine swap and beefing the whole truck so I can beat even harder on it.
I am looking for a ranger that can tow good and get good gas mileage back and forth from work.

So, can't anybody tell me when they started putting the OBDII comp. in rangers?

Yes I can. The 95 Ranger was the first year that OBDII was used. However, not until July 95 was it completely OBDII. If the Ranger was made prior to July, it is OBDII with some caveats. The standard code reader will not work. It took me several months to find a reader to scan my March made 95 Ranger. Let me know if you need more info.
