Question Need Header Input

I have a chance to get a good deal on a set of Borla Headers and Y-pipe. No chip yet, no FIPK yet, no FM 40 yet. Would it be worth while to install these for gains. I have searched this forum and other sites. They all seem to say that I'll lose low end but gain mid to high end. I also read that there is a venturri item from Borla that will help with low end losses. V10kllz (sorry if I butchered the handle) said he did not have low end losses, but rather great gains however he has a host of other mods that I do not. So there is mixed opinions on these and that is what I expect on this thread. But no ****ing contests. If anyone has a dyno of improvements that would appreciated. After looking at the stock equipment I don't understand how these CAN'T help the flow and maybe eeck out some extra mpg if I can keep my foot out of it. lol. Thanks for the input.

I can only believe that they will improve perf. All of the mod motors that I have installed headers on (mustang 4.6's) result in improvements and their exhaust is better than the V10. As you notice, the V10 manifolds are very short and basically an open plenum design, the Y pipe on my '04 is more of a constricted T. The pass side is squeezed down significantly in order for it to be welded into the side of the pipe coming from the drivers side. Very poor looking flow wise.... I just installed the borla catback in about 30 minutes and am pleased with the quality and mild but deep sound. Looking forward to doing the headers at the end of the month and a programmer when the become available for the 04's. That will probably be the extent of my mods....with the exception of possibly a T/B after I do some more digging and take the stock one off to look at what is there behind the t/b....

I think even with no other mods the headers are a good thing.Get a chip or a tuner.Getting rid of that soft shifting that is with the stock settings will make a world of difference in quickness.A custom y-pipe will give you some ooomph for a little $$$.Yes i do have a set up different from most others, and maybe my results are unique to my truck but i definatly did not lose low end trq, just gained. It is such a pleasure now to putt putt around at 1500-2000 rpms.

ForDen, I hope you weren't refering to the set of Borla's a member put up on eBay cause I bought em this morning. I have a set of Gibsons I was gonna install but I like the long tube's and Y-pipe of the Borla's better. I'll let ya know how they work out. I guess I'll put the Gibson shorties up for sale now.

Mach, yeah I was looking at those since I live in Parker too and wouldn't have to worry about shipping. The guy never contacted me back so I didn't know what year they were for and how many trucks they had been on etc etc. Good luck with them! Let us know how they perform on your rig. We need all the fact based opinions we can get around here.

I paid $350 for em and I think it was a good deal compared to $750+ for as new set. I went to the Borla site and veri before hand and verified that they would fit my 02 Excursion. I'll install them when I get back from The Mustang 40th Anniversary and post the results.
