I am going to the local savage to locate a replacement rear step bumper for my 1969. Can anyone tell if I am correct that any bumper from a 1967 through 1979 F 100/F350 will work?
Good luck! Maybe I was too picky but it took me a good two years to find a decent vintage one for mine. Call it Murphy’s Law but the good ones were welded on, ended up torching it off. Yes, stop looking past ’72 because the frames got wider by three inches except for the 4x4s. These old step bumpers have the brackets welded on so there’s no adjustments.
Thanks for the info, but are you telling me the rear bumpers were welded on from the factory? I thought in these years the buyer had a choice of bumper styles which the dealer would install. Anyway, I guess the 1967 - 72 model years are what I need to be looking for. I am visiting another "used" auto parts yard tomorrow.
Oh no, sorry I meant the owners would weld on the bumper even though it was already bolted on.
A long time ago there was an east vs west thing on which was better, bolting or welding trailer hitches (and step bumpers) to the frame. The consensus was having both and that's what I was seeing when shopping the boneyards. It seemed the best bumpers had been welded on along with the bolts installed. Some even had the nuts tacked so they wouldn't back off.
