Ok, so maybe I am a *******, but I am trying to remove the shift lever from the top of the trans. The 3 bolts on the brass cap that secure it to the top of the trans are not the problem. Please refer to the pic. At the base of the shaft is a bolt and nut that dont seem to do anything???? I took the nut off and nothing loosened up. How do you get these two stupid pieces apart????
Thanks for the reply. How tight? Do I need to bang it or anything? I did try the nut on the other side while I was just out side and the groove on the other side seemed to shave off some of the bottom part of the nut the tighter I went.
It should come right out, ford manual uses the trick. don't bang on it.
Dave. on My 98 it worked like a charm. it is a tapered pin and it wedges the shifter on. Are you sure your on the correct side?
dave
Yea, I was on the right side. The part that worried me was that side is shorter and there is a groove in the base. When I torqued it down the groove cut a shaving off the bottom of the nut. It was just frozen a bit. I torqued it a bit more and tapped it with a rubber mallet. It finally fell off. Thanks.
