I would take the time to go to Cutting Edge in the free and independent state of North of the River. Ron at Cutting Edge is very good at what he does and is worth the drive. His phone number is Please do not post phone numbers.
What have I got myself into?? I might do one or two and then you guys can say it was good or "Never take your truck to that guy again!" LOL
When you order tint material it is really important that it is the hard stuff. The rolls you get at Walmart work ok but are easily scratched and streaked by power windows and other things. I haven't done a window in years so it's a matter of who is brave enough.
I am brave enough!!! I just want to do the back window and the 2 small side windows.
I'll be looking for tinting on whichever car I end up buying.... so if anybody (Dan or Jason) wanna experiment, It'll be there. (I wanna put all my audio equipment in the car)
I need my door windows done to match the factory tint in the back. or maybe the back windows done darker and the front to mact. Can you tint over the factory windows. What percent is factory tint? What is the legal limit percent for Kansas. Guess I better call Ultramagdan's Tint Shop!
I have tinted windows in the past. They usually come out looking "pretty good". I have always had a few minor imperfections but they usually look good unless you get up real close. I am actually going to be doing my side windows in the next few weeks. I ordered so precut tint to try out. I almost always messed up on the straight cut so I figured I would try it this way.
If you are going to do it yourself make sure you use plenty of soapy water. When you are cutting the curve just overlap the tint on the window and cut it out by using the window as the guide. Make sure to always leave a little gap on the top of the window so it doesnt peel. An 1/8" is usually good.
Well said Steve! I do recommend cleaning the glass at least twice before applying the tint and I also run a straight razor over the glass to remove anything that may cause a bubble. If there is a bubble it will be so small that you won't notice it even up close.
Straight north of you at Marysville, an hours drive.
I was in Manhattan today and I saw a Exploder that made me think of you. The thing had to have 19" (at least) chrome spoke wheels. You didn't happen to lift that one did you? LOL
Tony, the back and side windows can be tinted over the factory tint. What the factory did not do is have any UV protection in their process. Dan, when can we do this?
Steve, do you care to organize a tinting party?
You dd a great job on the last on!!!!!!
So it would be best, if we have a tint party, that I razor off my current tint before the tint party??? I'd like to go 20% on all the windows. I've been running 20% on the back and 30% on the sides for many years and never had an issue.
I think alot of the police issue is how you deal with them. If you roll down your window before they get to the window they probably won't hassle you about it. Where people get in trouble is they try to act cool and leave the window rollled up until the cop taps on the glass. Basically, respect them and they won't give you trouble either.
Hey Dan, I think I know the Explorer you're talking about, if it was black and a two door at least. Those are 18's or 20'' Rims, I can't remember, makes me wanna vomit.
