hey,
so, I think I've got my future career all planned out, I've got a student internship at my local John Deere dealership working in theiur shop, I love it. any of you have experience doing this? After i graduate highschool I'll go to the john deere school down in Walla Walla and get my certification then come back and go to work. any input on this would be great. Oh, one more question, I have to buy all my own tools (what a great excuse, huh?) what do you all think of Snap-On and Mac?

I worked at our local John Deere dealer a couple years ago for internships through college. As for tools I have several different brands in my toolbox. My preference is Snap-On.

Snap-on is great as long as you owe them money. I made the mistake of paying them off and now it is like pulling teeth to get him to come by and warranty something. Plus it took me 6 WEEKS to get a new 1/4 ratchet. I wont buy any more snap on tools. Hopefully your rep. is better than mine.

A few years ago someone told me the John Deere went Japanese. Is this true? Are their tractors American-made or not?

John Deere tractors are built in the US. The large row crop and 4wd tractors are built in Waterloo, Iowa. The smaller row crop and utility tractors are built in Manheim, Germany. John Deere lawn mowers are built in Horicon, Wisconsin. However, the engines in John Deere lawn mowers are Japanese. Kawasaki gas engines and Yanmar diesel engines. There was a line of small tractors built in the late '70s and part of the '80s that were built in Japan.
