Man, the front of the truck isn't scary, but that first guage mock-up was! YIKES! I was happy to see the organized, semi-finished pic of your guages. You should put an engine turned finish on that metal! That'd be sweet!
It is a pretty sight everytime I open the garage door to see my 59 smiling back almost as if to say 'Yeah I'm still here'.
The previous owner drove with the old gauge panel for 9 months, no speedo.
Showed a buddy of mine the gauge panel, he tells me I just reinvented the gauge panel out of his plane with the speedo where the altimider should be. Never new he had Plane? He never offered me a flight?
I got my speedo checked this afternoon, did you know a Black & Decker turns at 70mph? The OD don't work but it stopped at 49k+ and I'll let it stay for a while, makes it look like the 59 is just hitting it's stride. As for the finish of the gauge panel, it's gonna need to be none reflective, AZ+SUN= blinding light and an inability to see the gauges. Until I decide on an interior color it's gonna be primer grey or black.
I have more pix just need to find/edit them and then they'll be up.
That's kool, I'm sticking with my original guage faceplate and speedo. I'm thinking of maybe replacing the non-working guages with analog aftermarket ones that actually fit the original holes pretty well. I think you used that size? I would want to find a matching fuel guage tho', but all I ever see are ammeter/water/oil sets.
Kool, I went to the link and found the 'guages'. Unfortunately, they don't have a fuel unit that's 1 1/2", only 2". Ah well, I'll stick with what I've got!
I definetely agree with sticking to the original gauges. I will probably place some updated gauges under the dash on my '59 F100. Oil, measured temp., and voltmeter. Auto lite makes a pretty nice set of white face gauges with a chrome ring that should match pretty well. Close enough for government work anyways!
Lots of work man. Gauge panel is a definite improvement. Question on the mirrors. I can't see them too clearly but do they attach to the ear that sticks out by the hinge?
