Anyone have their cb mounted on the roof with a nice little enclosure?? Know of a source where I can get on for a 97?? I'm kind of tired of having it on the bottom of the dash where it can get kicked by the kids.
Quadzilla- nice CB, I've got the exact same one.
On my old truck I had it mounted up top there, but I don't have any room there on my PSD, I've got the temp/compass deal up there. And I wasn't too sure I wanted to go drilling holes in my roof right away either. I will agree it is nice having it up there and out of the way.
Try finding a Volvo heavy truck dealer in Denver and go to the parts department. You will be looking for the headliner mounted radio enclosure. If I remember correctly its about 75.00 and comes in black plastic only but can be easily painted to match your interior. If they ask for a year I know 89-95 will work. The Ford big trucks also had them but its like pulling teeth to get parts for them now.
I would like to mount a CB overhead in my truck. I think I would like it put inside an enclosure of some kind. I want it to look as "stock" as possible. Is it possible to hide all those wires? I assume they would have to be passed through the A-pillar. I would prefer to mount my antenna on the cowl on the driver side. Will passing the wires through the driver side A-pillar mess me up when I add pillar-mounted gages later on?
No, you'll be able to add gauges without a problem. On my truck, I've got gauges on the A-pillar, and my CB is mounted overhead, between the visors. I've got all the wiring for the CB run behind the molding at the top of the windshield to the top of the A-pillar, then they run down inside the molding behind the gauges. You could also run your CB wires down the passenger's side A-pillar.
What do you mount the bracket to for the cb?? Is there a bracket under the headliner to screw it to?? I know you didn't drill through the roof, did you???
I wanted to mount my CB antenna on the driver side cowl, similarly to the way that the regular radio antenna is mounted on the passenger side. There was a thread on here once that told all about it. I did a search for it, but I couldn't find it. Anywho, the installation was very perfessional looking, and I want to do mine the same way. My CB antenna cable will just about have to go down through the driver side A-pillar. Going down the other side would be too far, I think. I sure would like to be able to find that installation thread again. Anyone have any idea how to find it. It had pictures and everything.........
