I have a 99 Ranger 4.0 off road model and for the past few months I've noticed the paint on the bottom of my tailgate is all peeling off and is heavily rused under it. The peeled pain and rust has now made it to the outside of the tailgate. Is this a common problem? Anything that can be done about it or am I all on my own for this one?
Never heard about that problem, maybe someone repainted it. I would sand it down to remove all the rust and repaint, or get one thats good from a junkyard.
Prety sure the rust has to make a hole before they'll fix it. "Rust perforation" being the key words they use to get out of doing anything for you. Good luck anyway.
Well thats too bad but i'm glad it hasn't rusted through cause if they didn't honor it it would be more of a hasle to fix. I guess i'll just sand it down and repaint it.
My 99 Off Road 4x$ has the same problem, and it was never repainted. Luckily, mine hadn't spead to the visible side. I used a wire brush to scrub the inside bottom edge. I cleaned it good, then sprayed it with black undercoating. That was 6 months ago, and so far no sign of rust. I also "oiled" the inside of that area, as oil will keep more rust from occuring.
