Tachometer problems

I have a 93 7.3 liter non turbo, but my tach is going nuts on me!!!
It says different things all the time, at idle it tells me im not even running, it tells me at 85 mph im only revving at less than 2 grand. Then when i have my blinker on, the tach goes nuts back and forth like from 1 grand to like 3 grand between each click, any of you electrical experts out there please help!!

Tachometer problems

wowzer ---
The tach is hooked to the engine at the tower where the injection pump is attached. There is a probe threaded into the tower and it counts the teeth of the pump drive gear. Sometimes the probe gets goo on the end of it. Disconnect the wire, near the probe and unscrew the probe from the tower. Wipe it off and reinstall it - carefully. Also there may be a ground problem. Had one truck with a ground problem and the ground was located behind the radio. Get back with your finding.
