Starter Problem

Gents,

I have a starter problem on my 1998 4.6 F-150. For a very long time it has been making a grinding noise and not starting. But, it only happened about once a month so I ignored it. Lately it has increased, so I am planning on changing out the starter this weekend. Any reason why it would do that? Alignment problem? Corrosion? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure why, but I would go ahead and replace it before it leaves you stranded. Sounds like it's giving you a final warning.

Check the flywheel (flexplate) teeth too to make sure that the teeth aren't worn or missing.
