Hey i have an 84 F150 4x4 SWB the interior is stock, i really like the dash assembly from the 90's fords is it pretty much a straightforward swap between the two?
Good answer. I'd thought about this myself, but even though I'm very mechanically inclined and adept
at electronics, it really would be more trouble than it's worth. If you change the dash, you have
to change the cluster. Electronic speedo, speed sensor on the axle on the later models. Column, switches,
wiring for lights...... the list goes on and on. You'd be chasing problems forever. On the other
hand... I think it basically will bolt right in, and I WOULD do it under one circumstance and one
circumstance only: If I had a nice, strait 84 with bad interior and/or mechanicals, and a mechanically
sound later model truck that was wrecked beyond repair, and a lot of time/patience, it might
be a nice project to swap EVERYTHING over. By this I mean wiring harness, PCM, EFI setup, tranny,
full interior, etc. Essentially everything from the newer truck swapped into older sheet metal.
That, of course would be a HUGE project and probably well outside the scope of you original
intent.
no if you find a XLT in a junk yard they will have woodgrain on the guage bezels the radio and heater control bezels and on mine i have wood grian on my door panels or if you get XLS interior you will get a brushed aluminum color
