I need help, You members know I have been having trouble with my steering , monkey driving, I finely demont my steering gear today, and what did I discover?
No oil, and some "rubberlike" stuff on the housing cover
I removed the stuff, and behind there was a broken sector shaft thrust adjustment screw, this is where the oil have "gon"
Ok, my question, what is the point with the cut in the screw, what does it do, and can I use a ordinary screw whitout the cut.
I must say, got the Shop manual yesterday, this is the Bible , worth every dollar, even the 15$ in shipping
I have some pictures of my disassembled steering gear box, if it will help. The slots in the screw hold a square washer that pulls on the sector shaft to adjust the play.
The cut is a screwdriver slot. There should also be a locking nut. You loosen the locking nut, then adjust with a screwdriver then tighten the locking nut.
