How's it going? I'm jacking the engine to change the oil pump on a 90 full size bronco and the book says to remove the transmission crossmember. Is this necessary and how do you do it? Is it just the 2 bolts about halfway down? I think I have everything ready to jack the engine but it seems a little tough still just putting a little pressure on it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
no need to remove the crossmember! Just remove the upper intake so it doesn't hit the top of the firewall, unbolt the two big bolts under the tranny, unbolt the motor mounts, remove the fan shroud, possibly the trans cooler lines etc (if you have clearance don't worry about it. I lifted mine just fine - 89 4x4)
as for the pressure, the engine does weigh in the neighborhood of 600-750lbs or so for a 351w!! Use wood blocks between the jack and the oilpan (or wherever you decide to jack)
