I have A 1985 F150 with a 351w and C6 auto tranny, 4 x 4. I also have a 85 F250 no motor and a 4 speed manual tranny. i`m dropping a 460 motor in the F150 can i use my C6 auto tranny, and transfer case with this 460, or can i use the 4 speed manual tranny, and will my transfer case fit on the 4 speed.
I am guessing that you want to keep the truck 4x4? also what motor was the 4 speed mounted to? Would you rather have the 4 speed or the C6? The 351M/400 bellhousing will bolt up (not sure about the 351W) but I believe it needs a spacer for manual trannies. Not sure if the spacer is required for autos. You may want to look in the 385 series forums. Hope that helps alittle.

The C6 will not bolt to your 460. It has an integral bellhousing that is different from the 460 bolt pattern. Is the F-250 4WD? If not the 4 speed would be tricky to use as well. Although you would have a much better chance of bolting that up to your 460 since you can just swap the bellhousing off if it does not have the right one. If the 4 speed is for a 2WD truck you would have to swap tailshafts and extension housings to be able to make your transfer case fit. Almost forgot, Welcome to FTE!
thanks guys, you info. is helpfull, the F250 is 2wd it had a small block diesel in it, don`t know what size, but it had a adaptor plate on it for the trany, and the adaptor plat will also match my 460,so if my stock c6 trany, and transfer case won`t bolt up i can just make my F150 4x4 a 2wd truck, with maybe the 4 speed, and i`ll have to take the front end out of the F250 and put it under my F150
When I bought my truck the previous owner replaced the 4x4 C6 with a 2x4 C6. All they did was drop the front driveshaft and tranny/transfer case. I guess the 2x4 tranny is the same lenght (or close to it) as the 4x4 tranny/transfer setup. If you don't mind losing the 4x4 for a little while you could just drop the front driveshaft put the 2x4 tranny and rear driveshaft in and hope that 1) the rear driveshaft fits 2) you find a cheap 4x4 tranny for that 460. You could also look through the junk yards and find a 460 C6 4x4 tranny and maybe trade both of your trannies for the one you need. Just an idea.
i have a 460 C6 auto trany in a 85 one ton duelly pickup, 2wd, can i put my transfer case on it, and keep my 4x4? I really didn`t want to use it because the pickup is in good running shape, and i was going to sell it, but if i can use the trany with my 4x4 transfer case i`ll do it, and figure something else out for the duelly.
