Can I save this flywheel?
I need a flywheel for my 1971 F250. The engine is from 1970, I dont know if it is a 360 or a 390. The flywheel on it is 11.5". The flywheel has little cracks in the middle, they dont look very deep at all, if I run my nail across them I dont even think I can feel them. A local machine shop said they could machine it no problem. But in my Haynes manual (dodging the flames lol) it says anytime you see any cracks at all you should get a new flywheel. I have checked almost all the local shops and I havent been able to find a flywheel anywhere.
Have any of you ever had a flywheel like I have? And had it resurfaced before? If so, how long did it last after that? I am considering getting my flywheel resurfaced since I dont have the money for a new one. The one place where I DID find a new one was Summit. They have aluminum ones for like $300 If I remember correctly. I will have enough money to buy one of those this summer but I dont have it right now. If I could roll on a resurfaced flywheel till the summer that would work. But I dont know if thats a good idea...Anyone got any ideas?

The truck that I am putting the new engine in has a 360 in it now. I might just drop the tranny on it, and grab the clutch/fllywheel and measure it. If its a 10.5" or an 11" I can get it resurfaced real quick, order a clutch kit, and be done with it.
I replaced the clutch on my 1970 F250 w/390 a year ago or so. I have never seen a flywheel so cracked. There were hundreds. Personaly I would never run one that had a crack. Resurfaced or not, it does'nt seem safe.
I bought one from the local Shucks for $45.00 Here is the info.
Part number 747
Made by Standard Flywheel.
It came with a new ring gear also.
Hope this helps,
