F-250 1991 7.3l w/ 80k-mi 2wd and a auto trans E-Aod
I am going to look at this truck it would be my first diesel .I just have some questions maybe some one could help me out
1) I got the test strips from Napa for the coolant, if it shows no additive should I walk away form the truck or is there still hope
2)I know that diesels don’t like back pressure if I was to take the muffler off and run striate pipe could I do any damage to the eng.
3) I also know that the auto trans don’t like to last if they are not taken care of, if I was to get a kit to improve the shifting-- would that make less slipping in the trans and make it last longer?(in my gas F250 the trans shop said that a shift improver would rip the trans apart-- that’s what he said but the parts he put in did not last long either)
4) anything more I need to look for anything would help me
thank
Kyle
Letting your rig breathe easier is a great idea - open the exhaust and air intake. Straight pipes should not be a prob, I ran them on my rig for a year, but it was a little loud with the camper on. If it is a turbo, the turbo will take the bark out of it at 2500 rpm. I just put a shift kit in my rig, and electronic one, but haven't really spend alot of time with it yet, but so far I am happy. Sorry I can't answer the one about the coolent, but I would like to know as well. Enjoy the rig if you get it. Those are some low miles on it.
Hmm a 91 with 80k on it,if there is no sign of additives in the coolant you should take an oil sample to get checked before you purchase the truck.Even if that turns out good you are still rollin the dice.If its not a private sale find out who the previous owner was and question them on it.If it is a prvt sale the look on the sellers face when you ask will give you some idea,if he says yes ask him what kind he uses.Good luck.
