Hey I'm looking at purchasing a 2000 model F-150 Lariat. The truck is beautiful, but I'm not familiar with the 5.4 L motor. The truck has 98000 miles on it. Should I be worried about the miles?
I bought a 5.4 with 85K, and another with 127K.
Both were as strong as an ox and beefy as heck.
Those motors are made to go 250,000+ with proper
maintenance. Of course, that is the key. How was
it treated? If the outside is great, chances are the
engine was well treated also. Find records.
Kpinto, do a search on this. There are threads addressing
this issue. Apparently, the air conditioner hose drips onto
one of the plugs, causing it to rust out and blow through
the hood. They suggest putting in a small drip shield.
Other than that, when installed properly, the plugs are fine.
This was only an issue on certain years and models, and
easily fixable.

It's a Lariat and the interior is in show room condition (leather, 6 CD palyer, power seat etc.). It is a dark blue sportside, the truck is beautiful! I was worried about the motor because I had heard they had problems with spark plugs blowing out of the aluminum heads?
That is usually caused by them being improperly torqued. If it still has them all @ 98,000 miles, then they will probably stay. It is due for new ones anyway so as long as you change them and properly torque them, it should run a long time!!
I too just bought a 2000 Super Cab 4x4 with 5.4 last december and had it looked at by my brother inlaw who is also a Ford Tech and asked him about the air conditioning dripping on I believe #4 plug and he told me my truck wouldn't be a problem because air conditioning lines had been rerouted He didn't say anythink about blowing the plug out he said it would take the coil pac out
