Loose Column Shifter
Hi, my first post, hoping someone can help. I have an 88 Lariat XLT with a 4 speed AOD and column shift. The shift lever has gotten really loose. To put it in OD, I have to shift all the way to 1st. To go to Park I have to go from 1st all the way back. Reverse, when I can find it in between. How do I fix this?

I have a 95 F150 with the same problem described, to fix it I started checking the linkage directly under the steering column, in this linkage a bolt had come loose. I tightened it up and that solve all my problems.

My 96 f-150 had the same problem. Lay on the floor and look at the bottom end of the steering column.At the base of the steering column, there is a small circular plate with holes in it. Check the nuts on this plate. 1 nut on mine was very loose. Tightened them up and problem was fixed.

Fixed mine under the dash. A loose bracket. Right on doc300. There is a steel bracket that connects the shift handle to the cable. This bracket has two torx bolts that screw into an aluminum casting. I have worked with bolts into aluminum alot and if you want them to stay then use loc-tite or some kind of thread locker. Took me about 10 min. to fix. Thank guys.
