I'm new to this forum. We have a 97 Explorer that the keyless entry keypad doesn't work. If I unplug and plug in the keyless control module, the keypad will work for a little while (about a half hour). We don't have any remotes as of yet. I have opened the keyless control module and everything looks ok. Can anyone help with suggestion on what to look for? Your suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
it works right after you unplug the harness and plug it back in. Then 30 min later it stops?(30 min of driving?) If that what you mean then i would get a bad harness or plug!??!!?!!? If its just sitting there and stops working....dunno.
I have it working. We went acroos town to Lowes. Locked the doors with the keypad. When we came back out of Lowes, I tried to use the keypad to unlock the doors. Nothing happaened when I entered the factory code on the keypad. Is it possible that the control module has a bad chip on it? I don't know what to look for.
Are you sure you are entering the right code? Also pressing the right button to unlock the doors? Does the code work to unlock the doors too after you unhook and plug it back in? To lock the doors you dont need a code
03F350 84F250 Check your fuses. I know it sounds stupid, but that's why it works a lot of the time.
If it was a blown fuse it wouldn't work at all. I haven't ran acroos any fuse that would work for a couple minutes, then stop working, then work for a couple minutes the stop working, and so on. All I have to do is unlpug and plug it back in and it works. Is this on a fuse or a relay like the power windows?

I'm using the code that is right on the control module in the left rear quarter panel. As soon as I unplug and plug the module back in, the code works to unlock the driver's door. By preesing the 3/4 button, all the other doors unnlock. To lock the doors, you press the 6/7 & 7/8 buttons at the same time.
I'm not trying to be a smart azz and I appreciate everyone's opinions, but it seems like no one is understanding that this thing works if I unplug and plug back in the lower plug on the control module. I can do this all the time and I get the same result time after time. I just can't figure out why after about a 1/2 hour the keyless entry doesn't work. Can this thing be programmed by Ford not to work without the remotes? The other night I had it working and went for a drive while locking and unlocking all the doors with the keypad. After I got home, I locked the door from the keypad. After eating supper which took about a 1/2 hour, I tried to unlock the doors with the keypad using the code that is on the control module. Nothing happened, its like something is losing contact or getting hot and shutting down. I had talked to the service manager at the local Ford dealer, but got no answer except this is one of the most reliable systems that Ford doesn't have any trouble with. If this was such a great system then mine would work without any trouble. I really don't want to pay whatever Ford would charge to try to fix the problem.
I just remembered something. A funny thing about the ford GEM module which controls the keyless entry. When you install an aftermarket keyless/alarm system (this is what I do for a living.) You have to energize the door trigger to wake up the GEM. Well, if you don't the aftermarket unit will not energize the locks and so on. There may be a posibility that your problem is related to this, even though the Keyless you have is factory. If it was a DIO, then we would know for sure that this is a related problem. But to my knowledge the GEM shutdown is only related to the 200* and up year models. Have you asked your dealer? This may be a problem that they have common knowledge over.
I have purchased a used keyless entry module / GEM / RAP or what ever the correct name is. Our's must have been bad. The new used one has been working for the last 3 days without any problems. Now I can go buy the remote to go with it.
