The vents in my truck will only put out super hot air out. The temperature contorl has not effect on the temperature of the vent air and te function selector does does change the air temperature either. The blower motor swicth still works.
I wouldappreciate any help in trouble shotting this problem. The thermostat seems to be operating proper but all I did was feel the hoses to see if the temperature change. Is there a more accurate method of checking the thermostat?
Thermostat isnt going to allow cooler air. You probably have a bad blend door controller. Possibly a broken blend door, but usually on F series its just a controller. Check the fuses first as it is a fused circuit.
thanks for the help homer. Fuse 5 (15A) in the main fuse box was good (actuatlly all the fuse were good). I located the blend door actuator below the ash tray. What is the best way to check the blend actuator?
Ok, I checked the fuse and the temperature selector **** seems to work (greater thean 3000 ohm on warm and less that 300 ohms on cool). The manual says to replace the blend door motor. Before I began searching for parts is there anything else I should check. Where can I locate a Blend Motor?
Its a dealer item and they arent real expensive. I would remove the controller and test it out of vehicle. If the blend door itself is broken you will have a much larger job ahead. You will need to remove the lower air duct and then the controller. It may be easier too if you remove the air bag monitor. Just make sure you have the key off when connecting or disconnecting the air bag monitor, preferably with battery cable disconnected.
Thank you for your help. If you don't mind I need some additional explanation. This afternoon I disconnected the battery and remove the cover over the radio. I removed the temperature selector and checked the impedance on the selector (which was find). Is this what you mean by the controller or are you referring to the motor located near the floor board?
I disconnect the battery because the manual said so but I was not certain why. The circuit should have been dead when the ignition was off (No shock hazard) Why should I disconnect the battery?
I apologize for my ignorance and thanks again for any information you are willing to provide.
You disconnect the battery for air bag system because it has a reserve power supply and a transient spark could cause a discharge of the airbags, injury or death could result. I think thats good enough reason..
By controller I meant the electronic blend door actuator at the base of the plenum, not the switch itself. Hope that clears it up for you.
