I purchased a 94 Bronco which had factory installed trailer package. I've noticed that none of the trailer lights will work when I attempt to connect.
Following the owner's manual, I attempted to check out the fuses and relays. To my surprise....the Relay for trailer lights (Relay #4) is completely missing from the main power panel.....but there is an additional relay panel mounted adjacent to the main power panel with one fuse. The owner's manual doesn't mention anything about that side relay panel.
Does anyone know the purpose of that side panel...and whether or not the one relay installed in that panel (slots for 4 relays) is for the trailer lights? Or should I just buy and install a relay for the missing slot #4 in the main power panel?
Buy and install the missing relay. TRhe previous owner never towed and most likely lost the items for the tow package. I used one from WalMart, the Baja Relays, that I normally use on lighting projects. (All the relays are the same so you can actually pull one and use it as a test for the system so you know if that is all you need to buy.) $4.00 or so vs $13.00 at Ford. That way, you are not messing with another system. I cannot remember what the other relay is for, but in my '95, it was necessary to have it. I believe those are listed in the manual, just not as a seperate box.
Relay 4 is for the trailer running lights. On the side box the diode and relay right below it are part of the ABS. The remaining two relays (the two bottom ones) are for the trailer reverse lights and trailer battery charge. I thought their were separate relays for left and right trailer blinkers but I guess not. Though, the left and right trailer blinkers do run through separate fuses. As a side note preexisting wiring for a trailer brake is wired up under the dash.
