Picked my truck up on 3/30. Yesterday after detailing it I noticed what I though was overspray from my liner. Took it to Supertrucks and they were nice enough to wipe down the bed but pointed out the oxidized pieces. I swung by Ford and have an appt for next Wed to leave the truck for 2 days for the removal. Q; will the raildust or the removal process damage my paint or decrease it's life? Also, for those in the know, how do they remove it? And for those who experienced the same, did your dealership provide you a lender. I called the service mgr who dealt with me lemon-lawing my Mustang to see if he can work the issue. The Auto Body mgr asked "so how do you feel going without a truck for 2 days?" so I know what was on his mind. Anyways, I still LOVE my truck and no other probs. Thanx, Jerry "still chillin'"

This is common with shipping vehicles from the plants to the dealers. I see many cars covered with a peel off protector during shipment. Does Ford do the same thing? Haven't seen any Fords rolling through the Houston terminals with that on them.
Through my past experience with removing over spray, they will most likely use a clay bar to remove the rail dust, which is actually recommended maintenance for your exterior by a few sources. I did this to my Corvette about every 6 months, and then followed that up with the Zaino Brothers car care system. Zaino's is not a wax, and is fairly pricey ($100 for the entire kit). The clay bar removes contaminants from your paint and I have also found that it does a great job on small swirls and water spots.
I will perform this whole process on my new truck just as soon as it quits raining down here, and I can devote an entire day to the Zaino process. It usually takes that long but is well worth the effort.
Here is the only place that one can buy the Zaino system Zaino Bros
By the way I am not affiliated with Zainos in any way, rather I'm a true believer in their products. Especially when the love bugs (screw bugs) are out in full force!
Thanks for the info. For an update, the sales mgr called me back and is arranging for a rental vehicle. Basically I'm looking at this from the positive side. Getting a free claybar/detail and a lender to take my lab out to the beach. Sure he'll be happy riding around "inside" than his kennel in the bed. For the PITA folks out there, his kennel is properly strapped down to the bed w/4 10k lb cargo straps.
I would Zaino but I don't have a garage and assume you can't do it in one day. When I get the truck back I'll continue to clay bar every couple of months.
So you're from Houston. I'm from Ft. Worth but stationed over here in FL. Can't wait to be back home....

No garage just like my situation. At least it won't fit in my garage. I really need to get that 30 x 50 shop built soon. That's all the more reason to Zaino it. Especially when you live in the middle of nothing but pine trees like I do. That sap can really do some damage to paint. If not Zaino, then I would go to your local auto supply and get the clay bar kit, and follow it up with Maguire’s Yellow wax. I have pretty good luck with that as well. I use it on my wheels and other chrome parts now.
F150texan- what part of houston you on? It hasnt been raining much on the west side
I'm up here in South Dallas, or Magnolia near Conroe. It actually was a wonderfull day today. Got up around 1130 this morning and washed the truck before I had to go to work. Almost called in sick it was so nice. Supposed to be nice again tomorrow so you have a great day.
Thanks for rubbing it in guys....Florida sucks right now, rain all week. I was supposed to get undercoated today but with the humidity I was told to come back next week. Oh well, in about another month I'll be bragging about how good the fishing is.

I will let you know how my fishing went this coming weekend bro...hehe. Not expecting too much luck as it will be in freshwater which I'm not used to. At least I hope to catch a good buzz and wet a line
