89 F-150 tries to start but fails
HI
I just bought a 89 f-150 with 4WD V-6 and its a 4 speed tranny everything was running fine when on my way to work doing about 65 it just stopped running,It acts like it wants to start but no good,Getting fuel and spark but still no go took off the line coming fromm the filter to the intake and is getting fuel but spurting and not a heavy stream. What gets me is it did not stutter at all it just stopped running.Thought it could be the alternator but can't get the engine to runn to test it any input would surely help out

Need more info.
Carb or Multi-port Fuel Injector, Throttle Body Injector?
Type of ignition system, Duraspark II, III, TFI-IV?
Try removing your air filter and expose the air intake and spray some starting fluid and try to crank the engine to see if it starts.
BTW, if the alternator is not working and battery is fully charged, the battery can crank/start the engine and the battery will provide necessary power to the engine electrical components until the battery is drained.
Camshaft gear might have been worn out and the timing chain stretched out making timing way off.

Its the dreaded dead Ignition Module. Turns over, tries to fire then dies. It probably the flat rectangular unit mounted on the side of the distributor with a fat plug going into it. They get exposed to alot of engine heat and die. Cheap to purchase, maybe $30, parts store will test it free.
