Hello all! I have found really good info on this message board without posting but i am really dumb-founded on this problem...
I needed to jump start my 98 f150 v6 the other day i did and then the loud clicking noise started...It sounds like it is loudest under the starter cluch side so i replaced the starter thinking i sprung it while i jumped the battery...still no fix...Maybe a spring broke in the clutch area but have not had problems with the clutch at all..When i hit the gas pedal the clicking goes right along with the rpm's of the motor...The truck has givin me absolutely no trouble and is idling just fine..can somebody please help me
probably bad news i have a 98 150 same thing happened to me its probably a rod knocking . ford needs to recall these motors they have bad wrist pins.i have read about many such occurances on line and i personally know of three people it has happened to. ive read that they fixed the problem in 99 and up models. i had to put a new motor in my truck after 113000 miles. some dont last 75000. im not saying that its definitely the problem in your case but i wouldnt be suprised. i would apreciate a return thread if you dont mind im very interested to here the outcome.
thanks for the info....That was the first thought but would it keep running ok while this was happening? i mean it is still running just as good. I will have to take it in tomm and find out..My truck has the same miles 113000 so i hope it is not a rod knocking but i did hear about this ford problem...
If the timing chain needed to be replaced could it still be running just the same as before?? Just wondering if it was stretched and hitting on the cover..
