We've had trouble with our truck starting. It cranks and cranks (like a cold carburator) before it will start. It doesn't do it all time (most of the time), so the dealer can't find the problem. This is the second time we have had it at the stealership for the same reason. This was what they said the problem was the first time: valve assembly IAC (idle air control) valve (replaced and still has the same problem) Also idles rough when stopped in gear.....
Anyone else have this problem??
My next guess would be a fuel delivery issue. The only way you will be able to confirm is to have a fuel pressure gauge installed. You should be seeing ~40psi at all times. You'll have to wait until failure (won't start) and then see what the pressure is.

Its still at the dealership...maybe they'll find the problem this time...but I'm not going to bet any money on that. Its kind of embarrassing when you have a vehicle that won't start...only has 7k on it
I'm having the exact same problem. I've had it in two times for this, and each time they can't get it to "repeat" for the computer.
I seems to happen most often when the a/c has been running, and then the car sits idle for about an hour or so.
I'm so frustrated, that I won't take the darn thing back until it has to be towed in. I'm just tired of the service writers looking at me like I'm nuts.
If you have any luck getting your problem fixed, I would love to hear what was wrong so I can point my dealership in the right direction.
What grade fuel are you using? Ive seen this problem when people run Premium fuel or Ethanol blended. Sometimes its a problem with change of weather and stations havent changed the winter to spring blends too.
The problem seems to be worse, and repeats more frequently, when the A/C is being used.
I do use premium fuel (HomerWinzlow question), but I have never had the problem before, and have gone throught the summer/winter fuel blend cross over season once already.
I'm not sure what mistercmk mean when asking the question "is it setting a code". The dealer has not been able to get the problem to repeat, so if this is some type of computer diagnostic question, then no, it has not set a code.
We use 87 octane, as the dealer recommends. We always have the ac on, but I can seem to see a pattern when it decides to do that.
We'll let you know as soon as I find out something...
I'm worried about this because my wife is pregnant and she can't climb up into my Jeep (7"lift w/no steps) if the truck decides not to start on the day the baby decides to show...

Homer: I didn't think it was possible for these vehicles to vapor lock because of electric fuel pump and return to tank. Is that what you are getting at with the different vapor pressure fuels?
No not vapor lock, just the different chemical additives combined with usage of Premium fuel. We had a customer with very similar circumstances. It finally boiled down to fuel quality in a premium grade fuel he was running. We drained it out and put in fresh fuel (regular grade) from our supplier and it had no more problems. The company asked for a couple volumteers to take the fuel in our vehicles just to get rid of it. 3 of us put some of it into our tanks which were nearly dry and ALL of us had the same exact symtoms with our similarly equipped vehicles until we burned off the crappy gas and put in our regular fuel.
LOL, well it wouldnt be a boiling condition anyway as the problem existed on the cold start in the morning. Dying and stumbling engine for a minute and then it would clear up.
I've got the same no start problem on my 03 expy. Again the dealer has no problems when he has it. It seems to me it might be the PATS system not letting the truck start. Keep an eye on the light on the dash and see if it stays solid or blinks while trying to start. I'm still trying to figure this one out since the dealer won't.
Now I found another problem. When it does finally start (after rough start) blue smoke POURS out of the exhaust, like a 300k mile engine. We haven't yet threw that at the dealer, but just seeing if anyone else had that happen to them?
