park brake help

My front e-brake cable is frayed and in need of replacement. I could just make one with some wire and clamps correct? I can't get to the truck right now and it seems that I could make it work like that. I also need to replace the cables actually going to my rear drums. Here's the problem. No one in town seems to be able to get them and I figured I need to go on and get a set of extended ones to accomodate the future 6" susp. lift. So any thoughts guys?
