Cruise control on my F-250 is goofy
I finally found a good 1988 F-250 to replace my Bronco. Driving it home yesterday, I tried to use the cruise control...
Truck: 1988 F-250, 4x4 with the 460 gas engine and 5-speed transmission.
Problem: Setting the cruise control, the truck races up to about 5 mph above the set point and then proceeds to oscillate around that speed without ever settling down. The acceleration and deceleration is enough to make a person carsick! The ride is more like a bucking bronco than my Bronco...
Question: Is this normal for this truck (tranny and motor combo) or do I have a little repair job to do to get it right?
Thanks,

My 89 does that intermittently. Right now it's OK, no trouble since I reseated all the connectors in the system, one at the speed sensor, 2 at the amplifier and 1 at the servo. It hasn't been long enough to know if the fix is permanent, though. I was told that the servo is most likely to cause that symptom, if it does it consistently. I would guess the speed sensor could cause that too.
