PCV Valve?

PCV Valve?
Ok, I am trying to replace my PCV valve on my 1995 F150 and I look in my owners manual and it shows it next to the firewall ontop of the crankcase, but I thought it had a line running from it to the airfilter box? THe manual shows no line running anywhere and doesn't label what I thought was the PCV valve, where is it and what am I looking at?

Climb into the engine compartment. With your left hand reach behind and UNDER the EGR valve (between the manifold andthe valve cover)and touch the valve cover. Move your fingers fwd about an inch and you'll feel a protuberance with a hose coming off toward the passenger side (your left). THATS THE PCV valve. DARN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to see from anywhere in engine compt.
I'd take a picture but I'm in the hospital right now getting ready for a cardiac cath. OH JOY!!!

So then what is the filter under my air filter for? It has a hose running to the top of my valve cover with a plastic fitting that runs down into the cover? What is that if the PCV valve is in the back by the firewall?

The PCV system works by positively (forcefully) pulling fresh air into one end of the valve cover and out the other. I think you are describing the filter/tube that allows fresh air to be drawn into the crank case. The PCV valve on the other end of the valve cover near the firewall is the device that pulls out the crank case gases and routes those gases back into the intake manifold where they are burnt up by the combustion process. The fresh air from the air filter just replaces the volume of gases being sucked out by the PCV valve. The little filter in your air cleaner is just there to filter the air being drawn into the crank case.
