The rear lift gate on my 2000 X will not lock when all the other doors lock with either the keyless or door lock switch. Does anyone have a clue as to where to start to fix this problem? I can here something moving inside the liftgate when the locks are actuated, so I assume something might have become disconnected inside the gate. Can the lock be accessed behind the inside trim and how is it removed? Thanks in advance for any help.
It sounds like the LOCK ACTUATOR in the rear gate is bad. If you do a search for LOCK ACTUATOR on the forum you will find all the info you need. Hope this helps. Alan
In the meantime, can you lock the liftgate using your key? Not by the remote, but by physically inserting the key in the lock cylinder and giving it a turn. (I hope so.)
Mine is out too. I suspect (mine) is the actuator. I replaced one in the driver door over the weekend. It took about 1/2 hour. Not sure how long the gate would take. I followed suggestions on this board and ordered my actuator from fordpartsonline.com. Arrived in about 4 days 40bucks. If you change it let us know how it goes. The key should keep it locked for now, it does on mine.
Well, I was unable to lock/unlock the liftgate with the key, so I took the trim off the bottom of the inside below the window and was able to check out the actuator. It appeared to be making some effort, and after poking around the lock mechanism with a screwdriver, I was able to get the lock to move. I sprayed liberally with PB Blaster and wonder of wonders, it works like new. Seems the mechanism was just binding up and needed some lubrication. Hope this works as well for anyone else having the same trouble.
Neither the key or the actuator could move the lock mechanism due to the lack of lubrication. I first got the lock to move, immediately to the rear of the electric actuator, by using a screwdriver on it, then hit it with PB Blaster. It loosened up and worked fine afterward with both the keyless fob and the key in the manual slot. Hope this works for you.
