i was wondering if anyone knows a good place to start looking to have a brush guard refinished. i have bubbling rust spots in a few spots of it. is it worth looking into having it sandblasted and painted or are there better options..help please
If your original finish was a powder coat, all the finish will have to be removed before painting. Paint doesn't stick to powdercoat. Also, if your guard was painted, you can't powder coat over paint.
If you are serious about a new finish, the best way that I have found is to find an acid dipper, this will remove all finish & rust. You can have the bare parts coated by a dipper, use what they call "E-coat". This is a dip, a high zinc content primer that is electrostatic, it gets sucked into all the cracks & crevases. Most paints and powder coats can be used over the e-coat.
Also, if you do powder coat, ask for a "double coat". They spray the parts, bake them, then apply another layer of powder on while the parts are still hot, then bake shortly. This is a little more than a basic powder finish, but it really looks awesome!
Also, there are 3 basic types of powder, use the Urethane based powder. It doesn't chip as easy, and is impervious to almost anything you can throw at it.
