I have heard that the 77-1/2 thru 79 had a better pwer steering setup. Is this true and what is necesary to do a conversion to this setup? I have a 77(02/77) F-150 4x4 w/p.s.
If I understand what you're saying, your truck was built in Feb. of 77'? If so that would make it a 77.5' which has the type of PS you're asking about. My 77' built in June of 76' has this type.
The biggest advantage to this setup is the fact that you don't have the leak prone hydralic assist ram and valve of the earlier systems. On the newer setup, the power assist is integrated into the steering box which leaves fewer hoses and fewer parts to go bad on you.
The downside to this system is that it produces more stress on the frame where the box is mounted.
77 mudder, thanks for clarifying my question. yes my truck was built in feb. of 77. i thought the 1/2 model year wouldn't start till may or june. thanks for all your help.
