I'm painting my vehicle one panel at a time. I've stripped the fenders and doors to bare metal and painted with epoxy primer. I have now completed the body work (bondo) and am preparing to reprime.
I understand the epoxy primer has to be sanded before applying the 2K if left for more than 3 days (it's been 3+ weeks).
I intend to epoxy prime and then shoot 2-3 coats of 2K and then sand smooth.
If I leave the panels with the 2K do I have to resand immedialy before applying the base coat? It will probably be several weeks after finishing the panel before I start the base coat (immediatly followed by the clear coat)
Thanks...Paul

Yupe, most likely you are stuck with sanding each time. You should consult with your p-sheets to get the maximum recoat time though.
The whole principal is the next coat has to bind with the previous coat. This occurs in two different methods.
If you apply your second coat within the recoat time, the second coat dissolves and mixes with the first coat.
If you exceed you recoat itme, the solvents in the second coat are not strong enough to dissolve into the first. If that is the case, then you have to roughen up the first coat so the second coat has something to grab to.
Just my opinion, but any primer that has dried for an extended period, be it unsanded epoxy, or sanded 2K, I think all it needs is a fairly quick roughing up with a red scotch-brite pad, and then just rag-and-blow-gun dusted, and then it's ready to recoat. A wash down with a weak prep wash may also be a good idea, depending on its condition.
