Hey, i was interested in putting bucket style seats in my 1997 ford f150 xl. anything special i need to know? Also, anyone know of a good place to look for seats online? I'm wanting bucket seats and i intend to put in a center console. suggestions are appreciated.
Jerry if you do this how about taking some pictures and maybe writing down what all is involved? We seem to get people on here wondering about doing this swap quite often.
Hopefully someone that has done it will come along with some hints for you.
I just bought a 2000 f150 reg cab long bed automatic 2 days ago and traded in a 1999 supercab short bed 5 speed. The 99 had a bench seat and the 00 has buckets with a center console. The dealer is letting me swap out my buckets and console for the bench (so I can take my wife and my son with me on trips) next monday so I'll let you know what's involved. From what I can tell the 99 will need holes drilled for the center console and maybe 2 "inner" holes on the passenger side for the other bucket seat and that's about it? The 2000 will need 1 new hole drilled on the "hump" in the center for the bench bracket and maybe 1 more in the back on the passenger side and I think that's it? The cab width's should be the same so the outter holes and brackets should line up no problem.
I think this would be most enlightening. In 2002 when I bought my 7700, I almost bought an F250 SD set up the same, but with a bench seat, and the dealership told me that to put captains chairs in it, the holes were already there. Just needed the seats complete with bases. I didn't ask about the console. Be nice to know if they knew what they were talking about. One thing they did tell me, was that to purchase the seats new from the Parts Department was really cost prohibitive.
