i just removed the pump you are talking about, spray some wd 40 on bolts ahead of time, fairly straight forward, two bolts thru the holding straps, one plug for the pump and sending unit, and 1 clamp for the fill hose, also you will have two fittings that secure the pump outlet and return lines to the sending unit, watch for the little barbs (only on one side of the c-clip that holds the fittings on the sending unit. two things to watch for, is tank empty? or very close to it, if its empty doesn't weight too much, floor jack might help hold it into positon while you disconnect and reconnect hoses and harness, second thing, watch that the inner hose of the fill hose doesn't come off the filler neck( right at top where you place the gas in) i took mine apart from the top first and the hose wasn't clamped very good inside and it came off, so if you just lower the tank some you can remove it right at the inlet to the tank this way no worries, also watch any sparks( if you drive the retainer off) if you have a wrench for the retainers it should go pretty easy. good luck hope this helps.
Another tip. If you have a rock guard on the front of the tank, now would be a good time to take it off and clean it out and check the tank for rust. Caused a pin hole on mine. Went through 3 tanks at the salavage yard before I found 1 that wasn't rusted out from the guard. Good luck.
very good idea, i cleaned my tank there the straps went and applied a very heavy grease, but if i finally get this swap running i'll remove tank again and clean it up good and apply rust paint, hope that will cure possible rust out, the junk yards around here always seem to puncture the tanks, i don't really want to have to buy new. thanks
I forgot to mention that. The 1 I did pick with no rust did have a couple of dents in it from the fork lift they use to move the vehicles. Was easy to knock out.
