It is time to part with my '78. The body is pretty much junk but the rebuilt 351M, rebuilt C6 tranny & transfer case are in real good shape. It also has a newer gas tank, 4-core radiator and all the glass is good. I realize this is going to be a project for someone. What would be a fair price to ask for whats left of the vehicle?
Thanks for any input.
Is the rebuilt 351 the original for the vehicle? If it isn't, you might want to put in the old motor in and sell the rebuilt one seperately. You'll make more money this way. Post a pic of the body, it will be easier to come up with a good price that way.
The 351M is the original engine. It was completly rebuilt and had an RV cam installed, flat top pistons and a new Weber 4bbl carb and intake manifold installed. At this point I am thinking of listing it in the local classifieds for $600. I could use the money to make some minor repairs to my '94.
good greef, man if it n good shape mechanicly, runs and drives you should ask at least 1k for it, the drive line if in good shape should be worth $1000.00 and if you come off to 800 then they got a good deal and you still did okay. DW
Thanks for the input! I bought the vehicle new in July of '78. It had been a daily driver until I bought my '94 a few years back. The old girl owes me nothing. I guess I am hoping someone with the time and expertise will take it and restore it and get some good use out of it. I figure the lower price will enable someone to buy it and have some cash left over to put back into it.
Last year my sister got rid of her '79 (351, 4 speed) that had been in the family since '79. She got $1,000 for it. Body was shot, interior was toast, and something had let loose in the engine (valve?) after nearly 200K miles but was still running. And the motor and drive train had virtually no work other than occassional fluids and basic stuff (radiator, pumps,etc)...never any major work. $1000 for your '78 may be a bargain for someone.
I know around here in Michigan, any 4x4, as long as it runs and drives well is worth a $1000, regardless of body shape. I've seen some pretty rough late 78-79 ford pickups and broncos go for $1200 to $1500 they still ran, but suffered horribly from body rot.
I'm with IronDragon, my dad just sold a 86 F150 with 4X4 for $1500.00, ran great, body probaly fell apart after the first good wash Around CT any thing with 4X4 running good gets $1000.00 min.

I like your frame of mind here. I wish more people sold trucks like you! If I hadn't just sold my old rust bucket, I'd look at buying yours.
