Code 44 - Thermactor Air System Failure.
Does anyone out there know if you will receive this code if any component in this system has failed?? Have a new smog pump, but if the Air Bypass Valve or the Air Control Valve or any of the other components is bad will it give this same code???
I have that code too. For now, I am living with it until I get my NG (Natural Gas) 2nd fuel system removed. As far as I know, the only electrical tests are on the TAB and TAD valve control solenoids. these solenoids would be most associated with the code 44. I would focus on testing those first. I don't believe an actual valve, smog pump or tube failure. would cause the code 44. this is pretty much a passive system relying mostly on computer output to control.
I have checked both the TAB and TAD solenoids and they seem to be within spec. If my info. is correct they should be between 50 - 110 ohms and mine checked out at 75. I have also checked the EGR EVR and I think it is O.K. too. It seems that when you first crank up there is no air blowing out the vent to atmosphere off the Air Bypass Valve, but after the truck warms up I can feel air blowing out. Would make me think that the Bypass is working, but I haven't found how to check the Air Control Valve and the Bypass Valve yet??
Try resetting the computer by disconnecting the battery for a few min. Reconnect the battery and run it for a few days then recheck for the code.
Sometimes messing with the solenoids is enough to free a sticking one.
