when I apply my brakes, once in a while I get a"thumping" noise. Short of opening the door with my head hanging out it is difficult for me to determine the origin. I saw a post or to on other forums yet I could find no reply with possible solutions. Thanks for any help.

The noise could be:
1) the calipers moving in the wheels or
2) the axle torque rods that connect to the frame just about under the drivers left foot and the passenger's right foot. There are rubber spacers there that will wear and allow the rods to move.
Other than that, someone else will have to make a suggestion.
Some day you may also find that the front wheel will pick up a stone (small one) and wedge it at the top of one of the brake pad. YOU will think the whole brake assembly is coming off the vehicle.
