need help please!
My 88 7.3 diesel ran great untill the other day when i turned on the key and the glowplug controller and power relay on the right fender well started smoking.I replaced the controller, glowplugs and solenoid but it appears to be ready to do the same thing again if i turn the key on to preheat the glowplugs. Is there anyone who knows what the problem might be?

So has someone relocated the controller to the inner fender? If so, they also had to do alot of rewiring to the original engine harness. I'd pull all that plastic stuff off and look for shorts in the glow plug wires.

Fordhound, are you talking about the starter solenoid or the glow plug relay ? The starter solenoid is on the passenger fender well and the glow plug relay is on the top/center back of the engine (or should be unless someone relocated it). Check the wire connections to make sure they arent corroded inside and also make sure the wires arent corroded internally.
